For audio recording, here are some great options. Personally, I use Magix's Sound Forge "Audio Studio" to record and edit all my audio. I've been using Sound Forge for 20+ years. I know about the others and I've tried them. For me, nothing works, better and faster than Sound Forge, but check them all out and see which you like best.
AUDIO RECORDING / EDITING SOFTWARE
Here's the audio recording/editing software I've been using for 20+ years. (It's only available for the PC.) What I like about Sound Forge is it makes editing audio fast and easy. I've recorded all my audiobooks with it and you can learn how I use it here (Tutorial 3). Having recorded 1,000s of hours of audio, Sound Forge "Audio Studio" is my go-to audio recording/editing software.

Audacity is a free audio editing and recording app, yet I DON'T LIKE IT. I prefer Sound Forge Audio Studio hands down. I just don't like the way you edit audio in Audacity. It's way more simpler, faster and easier in Sound Forge and I've been recording/editing audio for 20+ years.
VIDEO RECORDER, EDITOR & SCREEN CAPTURE RECORDING SOFTWARE
This is my favorite desktop video editing software. (Available for PC and the Mac.) It's easy to use and I have the Editor Plus version which contains screen capture recording software, which allows you to record your desktop activity, make video tutorials, record webinars and more.
