8 Bigger Goals For Your YouTube Channel

When most people think about goals for a YouTube channel, they usually think in terms of posting schedules, subscriber counts or how much money they want to make. Those are fine targets, but I like thinking bigger.
Posting once a week is not really the goal. That is part of the WORK required to grow the channel. The bigger question is: What do you want your YouTube channel to DO for you? What outcomes do you want all that work to create?
Here are eight goals I believe are worth pursuing.
1. LEARN — Building a YouTube channel forces you to learn new software, recording tools, editing programs, uploading procedures, video marketing, topic research and more. Stay with it long enough and your skills can increase dramatically.
2. TOPICS — Create videos that you and your audience genuinely find interesting. Study other creators, research your competition and pay attention to subjects you may never have thought about before. Someone else making a video on a topic does not mean you cannot do it better or give it your own slant.
3. CONTENT: QUALITY + QUANTITY — You do not know whether your first video will go viral or go nowhere, and that should not stop you. Focus on consistently getting useful knowledge, information, entertainment and ideas out of your head and into video format. Improve the quality as you go and keep building the library.
4. ENGAGEMENT — Talk to your audience. Reply to comments. Encourage feedback. Go live. Ask questions. Let people see that there is a real human being behind the channel. That connection can strengthen the relationship between you and your viewers over time.
5. GROWTH — Your first subscriber matters. So does subscriber number 10, 100, 500, 1,000 and beyond. Growth usually comes from consistently creating videos, engaging with viewers and promoting the channel instead of waiting around for something magical to happen.
6. MONEY — A YouTube channel can create income in many ways beyond ad revenue. Once you understand what is possible, the channel can become part of a larger business, marketing and income strategy.
7. OPPORTUNITIES — Your videos can speak for you while you sleep. People around the world can discover you, learn from you and become familiar with what you know. That exposure can lead to clients, interviews, collaborations, speaking opportunities and doors you never expected to open.
8. SATISFACTION & FULFILLMENT — After months and years of building your channel, there is something deeply satisfying about looking back at everything you created. A strong YouTube channel becomes a body of work, a library of your ideas and a record of what you know, teach and care about.
The Psychology Matters Too
YouTubing is a process. Work hard, but let growth take time. Treat your channel like a hobby so you continue enjoying it, yet treat it like a business if you want it to produce meaningful results.
Have fun. Learn as you go. Keep improving yourself so you always have new experiences, lessons and stories to share. And most importantly, avoid burnout. Take breaks when you need them and come back energized.
Think Beyond Uploading Videos
A YouTube channel can become far more than a place where you post videos. It can become a platform for your ideas, your personality, your expertise, your products, your services and your future opportunities.
So, yes, set subscriber goals. Set production goals. Set income goals. But also ask yourself what you want the channel to become in your life and business. That bigger vision can give you a much stronger reason to keep going when the numbers are still small.
