Uploading a video is not the end of the job. It is the beginning of the marketing job.
I have never been a fan of sitting around complaining that the YouTube algorithm is not sending enough people to a video. YouTube has billions of videos competing for attention. If I want people to see my content, I am willing to help create that traffic myself.
Think of your YouTube channel like a store on a street in your hometown. If nobody knows the store exists, you cannot expect much walk-in traffic. You have to promote it until people know your name, talk about what you do and start sending others your way.
Here are 40 ways to get moving.
1. Create An Easy Redirect URL — Use a simple, memorable URL that forwards people to your YouTube channel or a specific video. It is much easier to say, type, text and remember.
2. Publish Articles About Your Video Content — Turn your videos into articles, blog posts, newsletter pieces or written summaries and link readers back to the related video.
3. Link Your YouTube Channel Everywhere — Place your channel link throughout your website, email signature, author bio, social profiles and anywhere else people interact with you.
4. Embed Your Videos On Websites & Social Media — Use your videos on your own website, blog and other online properties so viewers can discover the content outside YouTube.
5. Make YouTube Shorts — Create short-form videos that can introduce you and your channel to new viewers and point people toward your longer content.
6. Go Live — Live video creates a different kind of connection. Talk directly with viewers, answer questions and build stronger relationships.
7. Use Cards & End Screens — Guide viewers from one video to another so they stay on your channel longer.
8. Post Videos On Instagram — Repurpose portions of your YouTube content into posts and reels that introduce Instagram viewers to your channel.
9. Post On Threads — Use short updates, clips and conversations to attract attention to related YouTube content.
10. Post Videos On TikTok — Repurpose selected clips and encourage people who want more to visit your YouTube channel.
11. Post Videos On X — Share clips, links and commentary from your videos where your audience follows you.
12. Post Videos On Facebook — Share your videos or repurposed clips on your page, groups and communities where appropriate.
13. Post Videos On LinkedIn — For professional topics, repurpose video content for LinkedIn and direct interested viewers toward your channel.
14. Post Videos On Pinterest — Use video pins, graphics and related content to create another discovery path to your ideas.
15. Post Videos On Reddit — Participate in relevant communities and share useful content where it genuinely contributes to the discussion.
16. Post Videos On Discord — If you belong to relevant Discord communities, share your content when it fits the conversation and community rules.
17. Get Interviewed — Appear on podcasts, YouTube channels, radio programs, livestreams and other shows, then tell audiences where they can find more from you.
18. Publicize Your Videos On Radio & TV — Whenever you have media exposure, give people an easy way to find your YouTube channel.
19. Comment On Other People's YouTube Videos — Leave thoughtful comments on relevant videos. People who appreciate your contribution may click your handle and discover your channel.
20. Comment On Other Social Media Content — Useful comments on posts and videos elsewhere can introduce new people to you and your work.
21. Create Evergreen Content & Tutorials — Make useful content people can discover and return to months or years later.
22. Collaborate With Creators, Influencers & Companies — Create content together and introduce each other to your respective audiences.
23. Join Groups On Other Platforms — Participate in Facebook, LinkedIn, Meetup and other communities related to your subject.
24. Start Training & Speaking — Presentations put you in front of new audiences. Direct those audiences to your YouTube channel and upload recordings when appropriate.
25. Advertise Online — Use a budget to promote your channel or selected videos through relevant advertising platforms.
26. Conduct Contests & Giveaways — Create legitimate promotions that introduce more people to your channel and encourage engagement.
27. Conduct Q&As & Ask Campaigns — Host question-and-answer sessions, record them and turn the conversations into evergreen video content.
28. Record Live Events & Vlogging — Bring viewers along to events, activities, outings and experiences that strengthen the relationship with your audience.
29. Engage With Your Community — Reply to comments, participate in chats and show viewers you care about the people watching.
30. Hand Out Business Cards Promoting Your Channel — Create a card that features your channel handle, simple URL or QR code.
31. Create YouTube Posts — Use posts to announce videos, events, questions and updates that keep people engaged between uploads.
32. Create A YouTube Podcast — Use podcast content to reach listeners in another format and create another doorway into your channel.
33. Use Video Promotion Services Carefully — Some services specialize in promoting YouTube videos. Research any provider carefully before spending money.
34. Get Help — Hire qualified freelancers or marketing help when you want assistance promoting videos or running campaigns.
35. Create A Clothing Line Or Branded Merchandise — Use shirts, hats, mugs or other merchandise with a QR code or channel reference to create offline visibility.
36. Build A Website Dedicated To Your Videos — Give your videos another searchable home online. Turn selected videos into web pages and articles that can be discovered through search engines.
37. Write A Book — Books create credibility, interviews and publicity. All of that attention can be directed back to your YouTube channel.
38. Write An eBook — Create a short digital book around your topic and include links to related videos, playlists and your channel.
39. Write & Distribute Press Releases — When a video contains a newsworthy idea, story or announcement, consider using a press release to attract media attention.
40. Build An Email List — Email subscribers when you publish important new videos. You own the relationship with your list instead of relying solely on platform notifications.
Build A Video Marketing Plan
Do not try to implement all 40 ideas tomorrow morning. Some can be done immediately. Others may take weeks, months or even years to build into your marketing routine.
Pick a few tactics. Put them on your calendar. Track what produces views, subscribers, comments, leads and opportunities. Then keep the tactics that work for you.
The bigger lesson is simple: do not make great videos and hide them. Promote them. Be found online and offline. Build enough momentum that viewers, search engines, media appearances, collaborators and eventually YouTube itself can all help send more people your way.
Create. Upload. Promote. Repeat.
